She attended an boarding school in London between 7 and 9 years. Her family later moved away from London in Toronto, Canada. Contractor trained in classical ballet in Toronto. She was also a star academically. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts that focuses on dance and theater. When she was 16 after a decade of years of dancing Contractor realized she wanted to pursue acting seriously. When she completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the play Pericles in the highly regarded, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. Her work was highly acclaimed throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to enroll in Stratford's conservatory program, where the top eight men and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course in classical theatre, which she was eager to take. Her place in the upcoming production was secured, and she won the role in the play as Hermia.
